July Book Club

I was going to write a long post about what’s been going on, and why I’ve been gone for so long, but I’ve honestly been stressed enough and I don’t think rehashing it is going to do me any good! Luckily my blog is still new enough that it’s not really going to affect any loyal readers because… I don’t have any loyal readers yet? I’m definitely looking forward to interacting with any visitors for this book club, though, so drop a comment if you’d like to read along!

And without further ado, the July pick is…

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

“No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan’s most high-profile and mysterious buildings. Recently heartbroken and just plain broke, Jules is taken in by the splendor of her surroundings and accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind.

As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, who comfortingly reminds her of the sister she lost eight years ago. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems and the dark history hidden beneath its gleaming facade is starting to frighten her, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story…until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Searching for the truth about Ingrid’s disappearance, Jules digs deeper into the Bartholomew’s sordid past and into the secrets kept within its walls. What she discovers pits Jules against the clock as she races to unmask a killer, expose the building’s hidden past, and escape the Bartholomew before her temporary status becomes permanent.”

I don’t think it’s any secret that I love books. I’ll read just about anything – at least to give it a try – and my tastes generally run broad. However, I think my favorite genre of all is mystery. Whether it’s a nice cozy mystery, a classic whodunnit, or a psychological thriller, I am all about it. Give me a good mystery any day! So, for July, I have chosen Lock Every Door by Riley Sager for my book club pick. It’s gotten some good buzz so far, as a popular “beach read” for this summer. I enjoyed Sager’s first novel Final Girls, and I’ve really been in the mood for something with a few twists, or at least a few good secrets!

Follow me on instagram (craftymodernmomma) if you’d like to follow along with my reading – I’ll be posting updates in my stories! Happy reading, everyone.
